We want to ensure that the Airport makes the greatest possible contribution to the local economy, for the lasting benefit of the community. We are also committed to playing our role in helping to deliver regeneration and economic growth in the Region.
“London Luton Airport is an engine of growth for the local economy, driving both regeneration and economic development. We will do all we can to ensure we maximise this opportunity for the benefit of all.”

Airport Growth
It is widely recognised that continued growth of London Luton Airport will drive economic growth and regeneration in the region.
We will work with all stakeholders to ensure that we make the most of this opportunity to the benefit of all.
Current Development
LLAOL published its Development Brief, setting out its vision for the next phase of development at London Luton Airport in September 2001. 'The Brief' has been formally adopted by Luton Borough Council as Supplementary Planning Guidance (SPG) and has guided recent decision-making with respect to airport related development. The status of the Brief as SPG means that it is a significant material consideration in any planning application and, therefore, that proposals complying with it may be considered likely to obtain planning permission subject to their environmental effects and mitigating measures.
Future Development
In December 2003 the Government published The Future of Air Transport White Paper outlining a balanced framework for the development of air transport to 2030.
The White Paper indicated that there is sufficient demand for London Luton Airport to grow to 30 million passengers per annum in 2030. The Government then asked airport operators to publish a Master Plan outlining proposals for growth.
London Luton Airport Operations Ltd.(LLAOL), published its draft Master Plan in October 2005.
6th July 2007, London Luton Airport announced its intention to withdraw the draft Master Plan and to focus future development proposals on making the most of the existing site.
These proposals will be issued in due course.

Promoting the Region
London Luton Airport is proud of its role as a major international gateway to the East of England. The Regional Economic Strategy recognises the importance of thriving gateways to the regional economy and supports the continued sustainable growth of London Luton Airport.
London Luton Airport will strongly promote the East of England as a great place to live, work and visit.

Inward Investment
Over two million passengers a year use London Luton Airport for business travel.
We know that changes to airline routes or the launch of new destinations can have a significant effect on local businesses, including influencing the choice of business location.
We will work with our regional and local partners to develop a route network
the business community wants.

Inbound Tourism
Luton and Bedfordshire are not currently recognised as natural ‘tourism’ destinations and yet 5% of local people are employed in the visitor economy.
Research indicates that just over 5,000 new jobs in tourism could be created by 2021. As well as job creation, investment in the development of the visitor economy can brings much wider benefits to the local community.
London Luton Airport is committed to supporting the local visitor economy and will continue to collaborate with other partners to promote the local area as an attractive tourist destination.

Supply Chain
There are over 100 companies based at London Luton Airport, each with its own complex supply chain. Procuring more goods and services locally will help local businesses and employment levels, as well as potentially bringing environmental benefits.
London Luton Airport intends to work closely with local business networks, as well as the local authorities and sub-regional partners to enhance the profile of local suppliers. London Luton Airport will also work with its business partners to understand their business needs, including current barriers to buying local.
