Home

London Luton Airport sits at the heart of a growing, vibrant and diverse community. We are committed to doing what we can to enhance the quality of life of local people, in partnership with others.

It is our aim “to be a great neighbour, contributing passionately and thoughtfully to the social, economic and environmental life of its community.”

Education and Skills

Education and Skills

London Luton Airport recognises that a well-educated and skilled population is critical to the long term success of our community.

London Luton Airport already has strong links with Barnfield College, the new Academies, Luton Sixth Form College and The University of Bedfordshire. It is
our intention to build on these relationships, as well as developing educational
programmes aimed at local primary and secondary schools.

Healthy Communities

Healthy Communities

London Luton Airport works closely with Team Beds & Luton (the County Sports Partnership), and is a member of the Bedfordshire Olympic Opportunity Support Team (BOOST), which underlines our commitment to increasing participation in sport and other activities in the local area.

We will build on these partnerships, and seek other ways to help improve activity and participation levels within the community. We will also ensure that airport employees have access to sporting opportunities and advice on healthier lifestyles.

Arts and Culture

Arts and Culture

London Luton Airport sits within a culturally diverse community, celebrated through local arts and other creative media. We are proud of our affinity with Luton and its very strong identity.

By working with local agencies and groups, we will ensure that the cultural heritage of the local area is preserved and celebrated, and that access to the arts for all age groups is increased.

Talking to our Neighbours

For many years London Luton Airport has worked closely with its independent Consultative Committee, the vehicle used for formal dialogue between community representatives and the Airport management team.

In addition to continuing the positive work with the Consultative Committee, London Luton Airport intends to improve direct communication with its neighbors.

During 2008, London Luton Airport will develop a program of airport community ‘surgeries’, which will give local people the opportunity to talk direct to airport employees about issues important to them.

Airport Employees

Over 8,000 employees currently work at London Luton Airport with the figure rising to almost 10,000 in the busy summer period. The Airport itself is a very large community.

Like talking to our neighbours, communication across the Airport is important if we are to achieve our vision. We will work to improve pan-airport communication to ensure the Airport community is involved in the delivery
of this strategy.

Many of our employees also live in the surrounding communities. We will listen to our staff to learn about and support local projects and initiatives that are important to them.
